Nestled in the heart of Versailles, the Osmothèque is a one-of-a-kind place in the world. A true international perfume conservatory, this exceptional institution is dedicated to preserving, recreating, and passing on the world’s olfactory heritage.

Founded in 1990 by a collective of passionate perfumers, the Osmothèque (from the Greek *osmé* = scent and *thèke* = storage) today preserves more than 5,000 perfume formulas, including many creations that have disappeared or are no longer available on the market. Among them are forgotten classics of the 19th and 20th centuries, as well as mythical perfumes such as the very first Cologne extract from the 18th century, and emblematic creations now impossible to find.

A sensory and historical journey

More than just an archive, the Osmothèque is a true living memory of the art of perfumery. Thanks to a rigorous scientific approach and an undiminished passion, the perfumers of the Osmothèque faithfully recreate vanished fragrances using their original formulas.

This unique olfactory heritage makes it possible to retrace the history, fashions, and expertise that have shaped the world of perfume from Antiquity to the present day.

Visits and olfactory events

The Osmothèque regularly opens its doors to the public for conferences, guided tours, and olfactory workshops. A fascinating immersion where you can smell lost perfumes, discover the great olfactory families, understand the evolution of raw materials, and uncover the secrets behind the creations of great perfume houses.

A must-visit for lovers of perfume, history, or simply sensory discoveries.
