Académie equestre de Versailles: Grande Ecurie, 1 avenue Rockefeller, Self-guided tour of the royal stables
In collaboration with the services of the Palace and Monuments Historiques, Bartabas entrusted the rehabilitation of the Grande Écurie to the architect Patrick Bouchain. The riding arena, designed like a theatre set, combines raw wood, mirrors and Murano glass chandeliers, echoing the Hall of Mirrors. Inspired by the Farnese Theatre in Parma, the architecture is reminiscent of the ephemeral constructions of Versailles.
The stables have been redesigned with respect for the site and the well-being of the horses: the stalls have been replaced by spacious boxes, topped with twisted lighting reminiscent of unicorns. The whole has regained its equestrian vocation, while enhancing the 17th-century heritage designed by Hardouin-Mansart.
