Come and attend the conference ‘Marie-Antoinette and the Theatre’ at the Montansier Theatre on 11 February.

Like her contemporaries, theatre played an essential role in Marie Antoinette's life, both as an art form and as a place for socialising and an intimate refuge at the heart of the court of Versailles. In this lecture, Raphaël Masson, Chief Curator of Heritage and Head of Conservation for the theatres at the Palace of Versailles, explores the queen's passionate and complex relationship with the stage. He invites us to rediscover the role of theatre in 18th-century Versailles culture, between the representation of power, entertainment and the quest for freedom.
