Vivaldi's famous Four Seasons, published in Amsterdam in 1725, were so successful that they almost overshadowed Vivaldi's other concertos (more than five hundred!).

While they owe their success to particularly expressive and virtuosic “program music,” Vivaldi was already a sought-after master throughout Europe, and his successes in opera placed him at the forefront of Italian composers, to the point that he was particularly admired and performed in France, and was asked by the French ambassador in Venice to write works in honor of Louis XV.

They will be performed here with vitality by the Royal Opera Orchestra, led by its concertmaster Théotime Langlois de Swarte, a true virtuoso of the instrument: in The Four Seasons, he is irresistible and twirling, prince of the summer skies and icy demon of winter!
