Passionate about Charpentier's music, to which he has devoted a dozen recordings with Le Concert Spirituel over the past forty years, Hervé Niquet, following the huge success of Médée, has decided to revive the composer's sacred works.
No fewer than eight soloists, two choirs and two orchestras are required for this collection of pieces, which are among the most monumental works of the 17th and 18th centuries in France. The grandeur of the polyphony highlights the composer's genius for brilliance and magnificence, but also for tenderness, sensuality and the ‘sweetness’ characteristic of this French composer who studied in Rome.
