Cécile Buquet tells the little-known story of a place that, long before the palace was built, was already known as Versailles.

What if the history of Versailles didn’t begin with Louis XIV, or even Louis XIII?
Beneath the Cour du Grand Commun, archaeological excavations have unearthed a wealth of remains: ancient buildings, a jeu de paume court… and, above all, a Merovingian necropolis that had been forgotten for over a thousand years.
Come and discover the buried history of a place that, long before the palace, was already Versailles.
