Come and join us with your family for a hike at the Grille des Matelots! An outdoor excursion to enjoy with the family in Versailles!

Looking to get some fresh air with your children and discover the Versailles estate in a whole new way? The Île-de-France Regional Hiking Committee is organizing a new "FAMILY HIKE" on Saturday, October 24, 2026—a day dedicated to walking, exploration, and good company.

Participants of all ages can enjoy a 7 km walk, expected to last about 3 hours. The route is family-friendly and will be led by hiking guides, accompanied by a specialist in youth-oriented activities.

The circuit begins at the "Grille des Matelots" (Matelots Gate) and will take us past several sites on the estate. We will pass by La Lanterne and the "Grille de Gally" (Gally Gate) before following the banks of the Gally stream. The walk continues toward the Grand Trianon and then along the Grand Canal, before returning to the starting point.

More than just a hike, this outing is a wonderful opportunity to spend time together as a family, introduce children to nature and heritage, and enjoy an exceptional, lush green setting—far removed from the daily routine.
