Following six years of archaeological excavations in the historic centre of Châteaufort (Yvelines), archaeologist Isabelle Caillot (EVEHA) will present the main findings of the research.
Once a fortified lordship and the centre of one of the largest deaneries of Paris, Châteaufort holds a rich medieval heritage shaped by the balance of power between the village and feudal authorities. The talk will highlight the site’s development and the organisation of power during the Middle Ages.
Several remains are still visible today, including the keep, medieval cellars, and a storage room located beneath the former priory.
In 1118, the village became a royal possession when Louis VI the Fat reclaimed Châteaufort from Hugues de Crécy, strengthening its strategic role in the region.
