Sergei Toutounov was born in 1958 in Moscow (Russia) into a family of painters. From early childhood, under his father's guidance, he received regular and systematic training in drawing and painting. At that time, in Moscow, the requirements for professional qualification as a painter were very high. For this reason, the training was extremely comprehensive. On the other hand, the artistic community was faithful to a legacy from the previous century, which considered that art required sacrifice. Although such a position is debatable, especially from a religious point of view, it nevertheless had an incredible motivating and energising effect on training and work in the arts. This was particularly true in the highly regulated and unpromising context of Soviet life. Indeed, personal initiative could only be achieved through the improvement of one's skills.
