Master calligrapher Kakushô invites his most talented disciples to Versailles. Traditional Japanese calligraphy is transformed into a contemporary art form as a means of writing.

For the 40th anniversary of "Choso - The Character," master calligrapher Kakushō invites his most talented disciples to Versailles. After exhibiting in Japan and throughout France, the Japanese artists' collective presents the culmination of their research on how to transpose the abstract and visual dimensions of Chinese characters into contemporary art.

Since their emergence more than 3,500 years ago, Chinese characters have represented elements of reality or concepts figuratively through the strokes that compose them. The "Choso" artists' collective's approach follows in this tradition, presenting conceptual figurative works that use the written character as a vehicle for this abstraction.

The exhibition also hosts the 4th edition of "Sho wo manabu" (Learning Calligraphy), which showcases works by Japanese elementary, middle, and high school students selected by a committee of experts. Opening reception on Tuesday, December 23rd from 6:30 pm to 8 pm
